The club has two RYA qualified instructors - Alan Butler and James Parker. If you would like some formal training, or just a few helpful pointers, feel free to ask them any time. Alan and James can carry out dinghy or rescue boat training. All users of the rescue boats must have attended a training session; refreshers are available where needed. As usual, if you are interested in training, please contact Alan Butler. As we are not an RYA training establishment, unfortunately we cannot offer certificates for any training received. Safety boat courses are planned on 08 April (Refresher - 11.30am start), 12 May (Full Course - 12pm start), 21 July (refresher - 12pm start), 22 July (Full Course - 12.30pm start). A learn to sail course is planned for 28 Apr. It is essential that you book in with Alan one week before the course, otherwise it will not run. If you can't make any of the dates, let Alan know, it may be possible to arrange an alternative.
Also, in the past Alan has helped cruiser owners improve their seamanship skills, on and off their own boats. Recent years have seen courses in retrieving a Man Over Board - this is very enlightening and thoroughly recommended to anyone who hasn't tried it.
For the last couple of years, Alan held a Safety Forum, which was well received and attended. We will be holding another similar event on 04 June (11am). Notes from 2011 can be found here, and from 2010 here.
